Massive update of Bizwiki completed

We are pleased to announce a huge update of Bizwiki UK’s index of companies and information has been completed. Consisting of tens of thousands of user-edited records and new additions that have been hand-processed by our editorial team and more than quarter of a million records being updated or having additional information added to them by our BizwikBot spider, this is a major update and should result in even better depth of information across the site.

There is now the grand total of 1,412,330 businesses in the Bizwiki UK database, and thanks to the submissions our registered users and visitors are making this is a number that continues to grow.

A large part of the credit for the quality and depth of information in this update goes to Bizwiki’s Chief Technical Architect, Keith Hinde, who has been slaving away on this piece of work for more than half a year. On behalf of the site’s editors and users, thanks for your tireless efforts!

Thanks also to the  many users and editors who have continued to add high-quality and detailed information about the companies they know, helping make Bizwiki a useful and popular business resource for all our visitors.

    Hey, That’s Great, but when will the index of companies and updates of US companies be completed. I have submitted my updates 3 times since before 2012 started.

    BTW I live in sausalito and see another company, travels with Donna, have never heard of it and no website–may not be valid!

    Would this update have caused a significant delay in the time it takes to update listings? I tried to update our listing in January, and the changes still haven’t been made live yet. I’ve tried to contact BizWiki three or four times about this, but haven’t yet had a response, maybe this will work. We really need to get our phone number changed.

    Thanks for approving the update. However, I made several other changes besides the phone number, and none of the other changes have been made.

    Our account says that our licence is pending, when it was actually approved over 6 months ago, so this could be quite a serious omission.

    I am a freelancer and have submitted changes to one client’s Bizwiki UK profile (http://www.bizwiki.co.uk/graphic-designers/490653/m-a-d-ideas.htm) three times in two months, yet all are awaiting review and have not been actioned, nor have I had a reply confirming how long it will take.

    This is unacceptable – how can it take two months to review a listing change? Most website directories allow the business owner to “claim” their listing so they can make instant updates themselves, or will at least have the courtesy to reply and confirm WHEN they’ll get done (one such company told me it would be done within six weeks, which is a long time, but at least I can flag up when to check back by).

    Please, please can you get someone in the UK to start updating stuff!

    Hi Samantha, thanks for your email. I apologise for the delay in processing your revision – the update was massively helpful for new listings but has not cleared the backlog of revisions – these have to be done manually so as to ensure accuracy.

    Thank you for your reply and assistance in getting our fax updated. The only thing that still needs to be changed is the company name – it should now be MAD Ideas Ltd, not M A D Ideas – could that be fixed too please?

    Actually, I stand corrected – whilst the fax has been amended, none of the text changes I submitted have been… I submitted the following for about (and bottom paragraph “from the business owner”)

    Hi Edd, are you sure you’re talking about the listing for your company on Bizwiki here http://www.bizwiki.co.uk/travel-agents/1648607/latitude-journey.htm ? I can’t find any reference to a “license pending”.

    Hi Samantha,

    Thank you for your follow up messages. The reason that your changes to the About section were not approved is because they do not comply with Bizwiki guidelines – see http://www.bizwiki.co.uk/faq.htm#editing_business_records which state that the About section must be “factual and descriptive information such as what the company offers in terms of products and services, what areas they serve (town, county, several counties, nationwide), which market segments they target (B2B, B2C) and other facts. Please ensure that the information does not contain any hype, superlatives, sales pitches, special offers or your own personal opinions of the company.”

    Therefore the About section has been edited to fit in with the above criteria.

    As for the company name that has now been done. Please note that changing the name alters the Bizwiki url – the new one is http://www.bizwiki.co.uk/graphic-designers/490653/mad-ideas.htm
